these men will face war crimes trials one day. There is no statute of limitations on war crimes, so they will be looking over their shoulders for the rest of their lives.

At the end of the day though, it doesn't really matter. These men are largely their own punishment. They have to be them... everyday, They will have to wake up and function in their own skin... and there is no earthly escape from that.

The human mind is capable of great rationalization and denial, but somethings are too big for even these to operate effectively. If someone has tortured a child in front of his father, engaged in anal (or any other) rape, has beaten someone to death, or applied electrical shock and laughed... these things all rot the soul. These activities will haunt these men to the end of their days.

I would expect an epidemic of PTSD in a few years. For those not engaged in torture, treatment and support will be available, but for the torturers.... I doubt even the VA will understand.

Their life here on earth is going to be hard, and according to my tradition it will likely be much, much worse in the hereafter, unless they make a profound and sincere repentance that fully acknowledges the despicability of their actions.

To God belong the east and the west: Whereso ever you turn, there is the face of God. For God is all-Embracing, all-Knowing.

    • A case can be made that these men are partisans... (0 / 0)

....thus the geneva conventions does not protect them.My question has never been of legality. It is still of morality.Like it or not, this nation should always represent the idea following the intent as well as the letter of the Geneva convention.Willy Pete is not banned by any convention or treaty and does have legitimate military application, but legal or not using Willy Pete(White Phospherous) rounds or grenades near innocents is just immoral and the country I love needs to be above that.
