Ramadan Day 13: Verses from the Quran

Mon Oct 17, 2005 at 06:45:43 PM PDT

From the diaries, by PD. Short, sweet, and to the point. Peace be upon this diarist.

Each day during Ramadan, I am presenting a verse from the Quran with a few thoughts or comments. An introduction to this series is here. Inshallah (God willing), I hope that this may be of benefit to any who are interested in learning a bit more about Islam and Muslim belief.

Quran 13:28:

Those who have faith and whose hearts are satisfied in remembrance of Allah. Indeed, in remembrance of Allah is satisfaction for the heart
I just love this verse, I find it very beautiful.

I think it's connected to my signature that appears on my comments:

Riches does not mean having a great amount of property, but riches is self-contentment

This is a saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Often we come to think that money and possessions are necessary to a happy life. But it's inner peace that leads to true happiness.

For a religious person, the greatest peace can often be found through contemplation of God and the wonders of His creation and in prayer or meditation.

This is something that I strive to increase for myself because I do indeed find peace and satisfaction in the remembrance of God.

Blessings on your family.  I've been enjoying your posts.

Tonight, we in the East enjoyed a beautiful full moon.  It reminded me that you're halfway through your holy month.

Many traditions warn us that material goods are a form of idolatry. They get in the way of a spiritual relationship and mindless acquisition is a cheap way to fill the empty space in our hearts.  Cheap, only because the fulfillment is temporary.

Today's passages fit quite nicely with these words of Jesus:
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Yes, it is the same message. It's wonderful to see the parallels in the different religions.

"Riches does not mean having a great amount of property, but riches is self-contentment." (Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him)

within. Amen to that. Everything I have is everything I need. I strive as well. It is a one of those ongoing lessons that you find needs to be revisited often to maintain some inner peace.
