Street Prophets

Calling All Catholics! w/Update & Poll

Wed Aug 15, 2007 at 06:17:04 PM PDT

Well, Catholics who like science fiction. Well, anyone who likes science fiction. And faith. Combined. With a deep, rich Catholic flavor.

Today is the day! Infinite Space, Infinite God, the EPPIE-winning anthology, makes its appearance in trade paperback.

In an ideal world, you run to your local independent bookseller and find ISIG on the shelves. In the next-to-ideal world, you order it from your local independent bookseller or the online conglomerate of Powell's. Or, if you must, from Buns & Noodle, Bounders, or the Big A. But it's also available from the publisher.

Don't forget to buy 5 copies for my mother. Your mother. Somebody's mother.

Update [2007-8-16 21:11:36 by rosel]: I am informed by an expert that Powell's is a grungefest, not a conglomerate. I bow to superior knowledge.
And is everybody old enough to remember "On the Cover of the Rolling Stone?" (the 5 copies reference)

  • Hey! It's not a conglomerate! (6+ / 0-)

Powell's was my 'church' for years and years - it's a real, physical, bricks & mortar store located at the corner of 10th & Burnside in Portland! For 23 of the past 27 years (including the past 18 in a row), I have been in that store on Thanksgiving Day, hanging out for a few hours - a family tradition.

I even worked at Powell's Tech (located about two blocks away from the main store) for about a year, until we realized that with the very liberal discount, we spent more than I made there. (Oops.)

I will order a few copies through 'em, though, and will ping a couple section heads I still know & see if they'd be up for stocking a few.

Sounds great - I'm really looking forward to reading it!

    • Sorry...wasn't sure of the right word (5+ / 0-)

a way to order from a local independent bookstore when you have no independent bookstore?

wow...to work in a bookstore...I'd have the same problem.

Thanks so much for your support and creating the buzz! I hope you enjoy the book.

I was just amused by anyone thinking that the kludgey, unionized Powell's grungefest might be a 'conglomerate'. :)

But another option (in which Powell's participates): Booksense - which helps support many local indie stores.

I'm so in favor of buying independent, and there's so many good options out there.

I feel like I should know which radio button to select, but they all sound so enticing...

I love religious SF. I don't normally do trade paper, but for this - I'll spring for it. :) Will order it from the friend who's recently opened up an indie bookstore, & have spread the word to my book group.

Thanks for the info! (and congrats!)

I'm touched that people who don't know me--or my writing--and it's not even all my writing--would put their oh-so-hard-earned bucks down.

Got paid yesterday, and there is a lovely independent bookstore (Tattered Cover) just a short shuttle ride away from my office.  Now I know what I'm doing for lunch today...

Thanks for the heads-up!  I'm looking forward to reading it!

I added the book to my Amazon wishlist. For a Street Prophet, I'll be glad to spend the $$...after payday on the first.

Congrats on getting into print. (I wish I could. ;-))

For the purchase and the kind words.

It's been a long and winding road to the book. I have a few other stories published, but the process feels like climbing a glass mountain some days.

And then there's those bloggers that get approached by publishers to write books...I better go pray for them, cuz the resentment never dies.

Good luck God/Goddess/To Whom It May Concern-speed in your quest to the printed page.

    • Thank you (0 / 0)

My books are only in electronic bindings...and only 2 are currently available. If you want to read them, check out my profile, or go here, to start at the beginning. I don't recall if you were here yet when I posted the serial.

I'm sure your story will be fun to read. I love SF...and I used to be Catholic.

Being in print will probably never come to me. I don't have connections and I can't sell ice cubes in Hades! LOL

Oh well. The story lives on anyhow.

Best wishes and success to you!
