Without analyzing context of Black Liberation movement?

Without considering whether Wright agree with Farrakhan?

Without disclosing who push this story or what they might have to gain from it?

Without looking at who other candidates hang around with?

about this particular primary cycle is that, being a history nut, I have read some of the campaign literature from the REALLY early Presidential campaigns.

Mudslinging was a fine art for generations - the current crop of slingers are comparative amateurs.

  You are correct. Cohen mentions that the Trumpeter was founded in 1982, but that Farrakhan got his award last year. Why he brought up '82, I do not know.

So...if Obama doesn't publicly say he disagrees with something his pastor says (or does) then that must mean he agrees with it! If I had to publicly disassociate myself with every nutty thing my pastors have said or done over the years, or be deemed to agree with/condone them, I would have time for little else. I have to count it as a vulnerability. Yes it is a distraction from the real issues, but saying so only acknowledges that it is a distraction. & what can one do about that? Keep saying it's a distraction & make it more of one? In a MSM newspaper, from a columnist who is liberal on most issues (if a crank, or just cranky, on some other matters), this stuff is poison.

Connect the dots for me... how do you analyze support for Farrakhan in the context of Black Liberation movement? Farrakhan is a homophobic anti-semite - which lens do I need to view that through?

  in the field of Civil Rights and inner-city economic development. It was in that capacity that he was honored, with his anti-Semitism and homophobia bracketed.

    Most Jewish voters in my neighborhood (which includes New York City) aren't the slightest bit interested in complexities when Farrakhan is mentioned. The only positive here is that Cohen has expressed some equally unpopular opinions about Israel, which I'm certain the Obama campaign will find a way of getting back into circulation.
