I do like me sum religion. An' I gots me a BFA (Bachelors of Fine Arts, not a Bad F*&ckin Attitude). I haz me a photo of the Prezildent out in teh shop an I can works sum fer free on its. Or maybe you wants a holy man?

Abu Ghraib silhouette -- the one everyone knows and grasps instantly.  

Over that, the international "No" symbol.  Customarily, red.

Embedded in that No, I'd put small versions of the world's religious symbols, in white, filling the circumference of the circle.  Cross, Magen David, Star and Crescent, etc. etc. etc.  -- I'd go to the DoD and lift the symbols approved for tombstones in order to avoid (avoid, not escape) controversy over which ones... and I'd include as many as possible.  (I would HOPE that our Christian brethren would accept the common simple cross rather than need all the variations... that it's Christians v torture, not Catholics v, Lutherans v, Orthodox v, etc.) Though I can imagine that there's a need to include some that the VA may not have gotten around to.

I will help as may be.  I can sort color and form ok sometimes, but am no graphic designer and can not do digital manipulation at all.  
For me, one of the great beauties of painting is that it is essentially useless (cant eat it, etc, etc.)  It is dumb on a wall.  GD has to be more Utilitarian.  I am not copping out, just saying my work may be near useless.
What's the time this is needed, something can go around like this and get suggestion the same as what happened with green to smashing purple Pastor Smash?  You have a large pool you/we may draw from I think.  Will let this one settle and see in a little while.  For me, whatever else I would want humor not in it at all.  Perhaps something without elegance, which is trickier because people will look away, and maybe not like it.  Then that is useless too.  I may need another walk, but like what I said at the top sentence..  
Perhaps by the time I have clicked post; DB or Marko or PoliSigh, Asbury Park, krwada will have already shown up with something perfectly apropos.  Hope so, you know, we get to keep it in house.  What a pool you have devoted PD.

the earliest tries emphasized the agony of torture.  I felt they needed a prominent NEVER to elucidate the central theme.  I especially liked the generalized torture victim offered by waterdish.
