  • Tonight's resource (10+ / 0-)

    adapted from the Litany of Mary of Nazareth from Pax Christi.

    • *=meditate, hold in good and active thought.
    • Please be in special prayer for mothers who have lost their children, and for orphans.
    • Tonight's sermon: for Charlie.
    • Tonight's collection plate: Pretty Bird Woman House.
    • A little joke:

      The lifeguard told the mother to make her young son stop urinating in the pool.

      "Everyone knows," the mother lectured him, "that from time to time, young children will urinate in a pool."

      "Oh really?" said the lifeguard, "from the diving board!?!?"

    • A Mother's Day recipe:

      Church Supper Chicken and Wild Rice Hot Dish Recipe

      INGREDIENTS:

         * 1/4 cup unsalted butter
         * 1/2 cup chopped yellow onion
         * 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
         * 1-1/2 cups chicken stock
         * 1-1/2 cups half-and-half cream
         * 1 teaspoon salt
         * 1/2 teaspoon fresh-ground black pepper
         * 1/4 teaspoon fresh-grated nutmeg
         * 1/4 cup dried mushrooms, such as morels or porcini
         * 3 cups diced cooked chicken
         * 2 Tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
         * 3 cups cooked wild rice
         * 1 cup grated brick, Muenster or other mild white cheese

      PREPARATION:
      Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

      Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and saute it until it is translucent, 5 to 7 minutes. Sprinkle on the flour and stir to blend it in. Pour in the stock and half-and-half cream, and bring just to a simmer, whisking frequently. Simmer gently for 5 minutes, whisking often, then add the salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Stir in the dried mushrooms, chicken, and parsley.

      Lightly oil, or spray with cooking spray, a 2-quart casserole dish. Spread the wild rice in the bottom of the casserole. Spoon in the chicken mixture, then sprinkle the cheese over the top.

      Bake for 30 minutes, or until the casserole is hot and bubbling. Serve hot.

      Pretty Bird Woman House! The shelter will be able to operate officially once the snow stops impeding the fence installation. It's May so lets hope things are now warm enough.

      In the mean time, a few women have unofficially stayed at the shelter while they've been preparing it - getting donated furniture and clothes ready, installing the alarm system, upgrading the electrical system, etc.

      A couple of weeks ago the staff sponsored a Reservation-wide conference on domestic violence that ended with a bunch of elder women getting together to volunteer to create a training program for the youth - what a great outcome.

      Before that --- the first thing Georgia did as soon as she got the house was do a training for domestic violence advocates at the house.

      So, what I'm saying is that the money everyone has given is extremely well spent. It is making a tremendous difference!

      Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  • Last week of the semester (5+ / 0-)

    is upon us.  I am not done with 2 papers (1 major) so will likely pull an all nighter Monday - but I've got good thinks floating around in my head that will sort themselves out by sleep and drive I'm sure.

    Then a much needed break.

    Prayers for safe travel, thanksgiving for good friends who have set me up with wheels for the trip, as well as my many friends who have finished their seminary journey and will graduate this week.

    and for my very patient family.
