The Prayer Closet, a daily prayer request thread

Wed May 14, 2008 at 04:57:17 AM PDT

[editor's note, by PoliSigh] Last class for this semester--see you tomorrow!

PhotobucketPlease join our community in prayer.  Just leave your prayer requests and pray for the requests of the community. I welcome all people to join in as the power of prayer/good energy is undeniable.

If you have any favorite prayers or passages or quotes or meditations, please send them to me to share, meeshka1@msn dot com

Please do not argue about the requests of others--you may do that elsewhere!!! If you wish to offer comments of support--please do so! If you choose to rate prayer requests, I like to use a "4" as an AMEN! If you disagree with a request, please just refrain from rating--this is a place where people need to feel they can reveal and unburden their hearts without being criticized. Should any trolls come our way, just surround them with prayer.

Prayer requests remain on the list based upon my judgment.  Removing requests is my decision.  I have no hard and fast rules--I simply act when the list seems to get too long or it seems the request no longer applies.  If I take one off which you would like to remain, please simply request it again.  If the request can be removed earlier, please let me know.  I'm sure we all would appreciate an update.

Thank you!

Today's Meditation: thanks to beliefnet

Prayer for Animals

Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals,
especially for animals who are suffering;
for animals that are overworked, underfed and cruelly treated;
for all wistful creatures in captivity that beat their wings against bars;
for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry;
for all that must be put death.
We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity,
and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion
and gentle hands and kindly words.
Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals,
and so to share the blessings of the merciful.

    bleeding heart's daughter who has contracted a bacterial infection when she had her c-section--treatments may or may not work.

    ladybug's daughter who "just received a diagnosis of hypothryoidism, and has begun medication and already feels a little better.  It totally explains her many health problems (besides the PCOS), and we apologized for blaming her for being a total slacker!
    However, this is coming too late to keep her in her college, what with the many missed classes and undone work due to the many illnesses, exhaustion and depression she has had this past semester.  Probably this condition has been building up over the last 1-2 years, we figure.  Since she turns 19 in June she goes off our health insurance unless enrolled full-time in school -- we don't know what to do!
    So prayers for her, please, and for me not to worry so much.  And prayers that universal healthCARE will become a reality in our country soon."

  • Update (13+ / 0-)

    Susan, who is in the middle of a circle of life: her mother died in November. Her father died last week and her granddaughter was born less than two days later. Peace and blessings for all involved.

    Despite everything, Susan is doing quite well and will be visiting her brand new grandchild in a couple of weeks, so her arms will soon be full of love. She knows that will help her healing process and is looking forward to it.

    She can be removed from the list. It's nice to have a happy ending amidst all the turmoil.

    Thanks to all for your kind thoughts and prayers.

  • many thanks (15+ / 0-)

    • for the lovely picture
    • prayers for my voice.  More problems have surfaced and we aren't through with the search process.  Luckily, the serious problems have been ruled out.
    • meditations for all above on this list and all who follow.
  • Praise/request (14+ / 0-)

    My friend Brian has decided to take a church choir position in scenic EVERETT, WASHINGTON, a city where I lived for 2 years. It's not exactly a garden spot, but  is only 30 miles from Seattle and has a respectable orchestra and arts scene. Brian's wife is from the Vancouver, BC area, so she'll be close to her family.

    Praise for the job: Brian wasn't too happy in his current position in East Podunk, so I'm glad he's found something near a large city and has the wife's-family thing as well.

    Request: First and foremost, a house they can afford. Everett has started to be "discovered" and I can only shudder at what the prices must be like. Also, safety for Brian as he drives the moving truck solo from North Carolina the week after next.

  • For the Cat Lady (12+ / 0-)

    CL, I learned to my dismay, is a Republican, and she's  made some comments about illegals (we live in Southern Cal) that reveal distinctly non-Christian sentiments. [In the interest of full disclosure, I'm not too fond of "them," either.]

    CL just recently forwarded me a vile screed concerning some Katrina survivor bellyaching because she wasn't happy with the house, etc. that the munificent white community had given her. The article didn't say "uppity N*****," but it might well have. It was so obviously made up that I checked The Onion to see whether it had been cribbed from there. Perhaps i should have looked on Redstate.com?

    In any event, I told CL via return e-mail never to send me such things again, as well as outlining why I felt that way. She just wuvs her pwecious, pwecious, PWECIOUS kitties to death, but can swallow such venom against humans? AY, caramba.

      I think I have seen that one and it is untrue.

    • I am a Katrina survivor (11+ / 0-)

      and the stories of people abusing the help are the exception. Yes, there will always be opportunists but we could not have made it without the help of strangers. The hot meals & encouragement they gave us each day kept us going in 90+ degree heat with no electricity.

      Your friend needs to come to the New Orleans area & see firsthand how much has been done for truly grateful people. If animals are more her area of concern then perhaps she would be willing to donate to our local LSPCA so that the innocent animals that were left behind can be cared for.

      It takes a powerful force to change a mind. Thank you for standing up!

      • I'm well aware that there are opportunists-- (7+ / 0-)

        there always are. Unfortunately, it comes with the territory and there's no way I know of stopping the abuse without punishing or burdening the innocent. People...God's worst idea EVER. How could the same divine mind that thought up walnuts have thought up humans?

        CL hasn't said anything further, but if she does, I'll tell her my intent was not to embarrass her (although she should be embarrassed for reading and passing on such bilge), but to make her think and to remind her that Jesus doesn't approve of the Republican line nearly as much as they believe.

        Before I get too holier than thou, however, I need to ask for my own attitude change, which I'll do in another post.

        I hope you're getting the help you need down there?

  • Update on Chelsea Umbach (13+ / 0-)

    She is the young friend of my daughter that needs the double lung & heart transplant. We just got a note from her mother that she is back in the hospital fighting an infection. They have "frozen" her on the transplant list & until she gets over the infection nothing can be done.
    Please pray that the infection clears & her transplant comes soon. Her spirits are low because another young girl with the same illness recently passed away while waiting for a donor.

  • Please pray for (7+ / 0-)

    ... my grandmother, who was hospitalized this week due to pain from shingles.  She will be 90 next year and still lives by herself.  A great example for independent women everywhere!  (The hospital does not know how to help her as she is almost healed - my mother is concerned that she checked herself in to get painkillers.)

    ...my mother, who bears the burden by herself of trying to manage the hospital from 600 miles away, to ask the docs NOT to give narcotics to grandma, who has had problems with addiction her whole life.  Mom is struggling with how to convince grandma to move closer to family who can be there for her during medical emergencies.

    ...my Son who was exposed to TB at school.  We won't know for months whether he was infected.

    Blessings to all of you!

  • interview on Saturday! (8+ / 0-)

    McDoc interviews on Saturday for the program we want. Please send good vibes! Hopefully we'll know the results ASAP after the weekend. (He was told he has a good shot, but there are a couple other candidates for this one position.)

    Tasha belonged to Pat's late partner, so she has a huge emotional connection with this dog.  Pat's poodle Maddy loves her too--she keeps licking Tasha's ears and head.
