The Prayer Closet, a daily prayer request thread

Thu May 08, 2008 at 06:25:42 AM PDT

[editor's note, by PoliSigh]Oh dear, slept late again--stayed up too late the night before watching election returns!

PhotobucketPlease join our community in prayer.  Just leave your prayer requests and pray for the requests of the community. I welcome all people to join in as the power of prayer/good energy is undeniable.

If you have any favorite prayers or passages or quotes or meditations, please send them to me to share, meeshka1@msn dot com

Please do not argue about the requests of others--you may do that elsewhere!!! If you wish to offer comments of support--please do so! If you choose to rate prayer requests, I like to use a "4" as an AMEN! If you disagree with a request, please just refrain from rating--this is a place where people need to feel they can reveal and unburden their hearts without being criticized. Should any trolls come our way, just surround them with prayer.

Prayer requests remain on the list based upon my judgment.  Removing requests is my decision.  I have no hard and fast rules--I simply act when the list seems to get too long or it seems the request no longer applies.  If I take one off which you would like to remain, please simply request it again.  If the request can be removed earlier, please let me know.  I'm sure we all would appreciate an update.

Thank you!

Today's Meditation: thanks to Oremus Hymnal, you can listen here

A Mighty Fortress is our God

A mighty fortress is our God,
a bulwark never failing;
Our helper he, amid the flood
of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe
doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great,
and, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.

Did we in our strength confide,
our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side,
the Man of God's own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabbaoth, His Name,
from age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled,
should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed
his truth to triumph through us:
the Prince of Darkness grim,
we tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure,
for lo, his doom is sure,
one little word shall fell him.

That word above all earthly powers,
no thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
through Him Who with us sideth:
Let good and kindred go,
this mortal life also;
the body they may kill:
God's truth abideth still,
his kingdom is forever. Words: Martin Luther, 1529

    the people of Myanmar

    Simplexity's fellow seminarians who will be graduating

    ChocolateChris' sister--She is now waiting for word of acceptance to Hood Theological Seminary, and a trustees meeting to affirm her congregation's support for her desire for M.Div. & ordination!

    Art Heals--comfort for the loss of her "Second Mom"--and for all who loved her

    the UMC

    Irish Patti's patient going into the hospital

    dirkster42 and the two men who mugged him

    reahti, that problems with her landlord work out

    that the Orphan Rights Bill will not pass in Congress. For this bill to pass would mean imminent disaster for artists like Art Heals and her husband. Our copyrights would be taken and we would have no recourse despite that fact we owned our images. Please, write or pray for our Congresswomen and men to do the right thing and not let our art become a free possession to those who have no ownership in it.

    Kirstin, dealing with melanoma

    LunarEclipse, dealing with a toxic co-worker

    Susan, who is in the middle of a circle of life: her mother died in November. Her father died last week and her granddaughter was born less than two days later. Peace and blessings for all involved.

    Ben, dealing with insurance issues

    Claire in rehab for pneumonia, her husband Wally and daughter Suzanne

    sistercoyote's boss who is having a difficult pregnancy

    PRAY for Grayson Mitchell -- pray that a miracle be performed in his life -- one that doctors can't explain. Pray also for his mother, father and brothers. These parents probably have some very difficult decisions to make in the coming days.  Pray that God leads them to make the right decisions.

    Paula healing from foot surgery

    bleeding heart's daughter who has contracted a bacterial infection when she had her c-section--treatments may or may not work.

    ladybug's daughter who "just received a diagnosis of hypothryoidism, and has begun medication and already feels a little better.  It totally explains her many health problems (besides the PCOS), and we apologized for blaming her for being a total slacker!
    However, this is coming too late to keep her in her college, what with the many missed classes and undone work due to the many illnesses, exhaustion and depression she has had this past semester.  Probably this condition has been building up over the last 1-2 years, we figure.  Since she turns 19 in June she goes off our health insurance unless enrolled full-time in school -- we don't know what to do!
    So prayers for her, please, and for me not to worry so much.  And prayers that universal healthCARE will become a reality in our country soon."

  • Update from a request (16+ / 0-)

    put up a year ago.  I had asked for prayers for a girl named Jesse who was hospitalized in organ failure from an unknown cause.  She is the daughter of Patty and they had suffered the death of son and brother months earlier due to a car accident.  Patty had been on a cruise with friends and was helicoptered to shore and flown home with the news of her son's death.  Jesse recovered, thankfully. Well fast forward to now and I just heard that Jesse is dating my nephew Kyle.  His story is similar to my kids' with his mom dying from cancer when he was 4 months old.  The four boys grew up together and he is like a son to me. This is joyful news and I thought you all should have some brightness shining on your fabulous efforts.

  • Thank you Poli... (15+ / 0-)
