Ramadan Day 29: Verses from the Quran

Wed Nov 02, 2005 at 05:27:38 PM PDT

Each day during Ramadan, I am presenting a verse from the Quran with a few thoughts or comments. An introduction to this series is here. Inshallah (God willing), I hope that this may be of benefit to any who are interested in learning a bit more about Islam and Muslim belief.

Quran 76:8-76:9:

And they feed, for love of Allah (God), the poor and the orphan and the captive, saying: We feed you for the sake of Allah, we do not seek any reward or thanks from you
A lot of time, when we give to others, we kind of expect (even if we don't say so) that they'll give us something in return or shower us with gratitude. At least, I know this is true for me. Sometimes, we can even slip into doing it in the hope of receiving those responses. But true generosity doesn't ask for any reward or thanks. It gives purely because giving is the right and good thing to do. For the sake of God alone.
