PhotobucketHappy Mother's Day!  I am blessed to still have my Mom--all 4 foot 9 inches of her.  She was born to Ukrainian immigrant parents--her father was an illegal alien from Canada, who left an abusive childhood behind him at 16 and her mother traveled from Poland (although they were ethnic Ukrainians) all alone at the age of 13 when her Uncle sent for her.  Mom had polio (or something--she has never suffered any limb problems) at the age of 9,  Her family and she were shunned by ignorant neighbors after her recovery.  She did not grow for a year after that.  She met Dad when they were 24.  He lived a couple of streets away.  My Aunt figured out that Dad was seeing Mom when my Aunt took Dad's Cocker Spaniel, Taffy for a walk and Taffy ran right up to Mom's front door.  They married and I came along 5 years later after they bought a new home and a car.  Dad was ill much of the time when I was small, so I ended up as an only child.  Mom has beaten the odds countless times in her life--a heart attack at 42, another at 52, a triple bi-pass at 62, a broken hip which led to multiple complications where she almost bled to death and most recently, pneumonia twice 4 years ago.  She has outlived Dad by 6 years (as so many women do).  She and her miniature poodle Coco live in a condo I get to redecorate.  So far we have gotten new kitchen appliances, carpeting, redecorated 2 of the three bathrooms, painted the fireplace and kitchen cabinets and moved furniture around countless times in the past 10 months.  Mom is a lifelong Democrat and loves talking about politics, watching Cash Cab and going to the casinos in Connecticutt (that is probably what she likes to do best.)  She is vain and still dresses in cute, trendy, but not too young clothes!  She has her hair done and she has not let it go gray!!!  So--here's to Moms--here's to my Mom!!!!

So, what are you up to?  I am grading and I will take Mom out for lunch then back to grading.  So, tell us what you are doing and what are you eating!  How's the weather?  Gorgeous here!
