The Will to Love
Wed Jun 04, 2008 at 08:35:36 PM PDT
Dr. Martin Luther King wrote a phenomenal book (a collection of sermons really) called the "Strength to Love." With it, I think we might consider another important necessity for human life. We must find within ourselves not only strength, but will power, if we are to love.

As you can tell, I still have a problem. Because of Wachovia, we still have a problem. Unfortunately, we just found out yesterday that the corporate office of Joe's company did not get the direct deposit form for the new bank account until after it sent the payroll information in & his paycheck this week is not scheduled to go into the new account now until next week. We are currently overdrawn at Wachovia by $465.25 because they are still trying to bounce checks for the same 2 companies that I have already complained about twice.

I had the privilege of attending an ordination for two Catholic deacons recently and it was a very uplifting experience.
Church Closes Doors on Easter

This guy gets it.
The Rev. James T. Meeks shut the doors of his church Easter weekend and told his congregation to get into the streets, the hospitals and the homeless shelters of Chicago.
"It seems like all we do is come to worship instead of going out there and serving," Meeks told about 3,000 members of Salem Baptist Church April 7 according to a report in the Chicago Tribune. He said, "It was on Easter Sunday when Jesus ... gave [his disciples] a charge and told them to go out to the world."

Prayer and service. Prayer and service. No, no - I'm not getting into the discussion of whether Christians are justified by faith alone or whether one's works are on some balance sheet somewhere - leave that to the theologians. And after all, it's not about us. It's about how we treat each other - not because we're trying to get some reward later - but because it's the right thing to do.
And this guy gets it. It's not just an Easter daylong gimmick, either - teams of folks from his church will be spending Saturdays as days of service through November. And y'know, after doing it for so long, I'm willing to bet that it won't stop in September, either.
There's another church mentioned in the article that did the same thing on Palm Sunday. What a beautiful trend this would make.

After experiencing the events of today, I was thinking about NOT posting this diary. I have not posted a diary for awhile, but I was thinking about doing so this last weekend, and decided to post inspite of the fact that I currently have a pretty full workload right now. For you see, today is my eldest son's 21st birthday!
