So, what are the McCains hiding? Cindy McCain was asked about releasing her tax returns, on the Today show, and reiterated that she would never release them -- ever -- even if she becomes First Lady:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vZi6...

We're All Hacks Atrios is right

It's important to remember that none of us are above the fray, that we all have hackish tendencies to suppress information which doesn't fit our worldview and privilege information that does. We're more likely to excuse behavior from people we like and exaggerate the ills of people we don't like. I try to fight hackish tendencies especially during this intra-Dem battle, but I don't claim to have superhuman Nonhack powers.

For the record, I make no effort to be above the fray nor any pretense of being fair or balanced.  I'm not only a member of the Hack Club for Men, I'm the president.  It's good to know your own filters....

More hackery below.

Gas Theft: Welcome to the End of Oil

Sun Apr 20, 2008 at 09:15:15 PM PDT

I was talking to my mom yesterday, and one thing she told me about was having her gas tank broken into.  Somehow, the police were able to apprehend (or whatever the precise procedure they used was) the thieves and my mom got her gas back.  (The thieves also did some damage to the car in the process.)  The police officer my mom spoke with mentioned that it’s becoming increasingly common for people to go around stealing gas out of other people’s cars, in some states it’s a much bigger problem than it is in California.  Apparently, with SUV’s it’s common for people just to drill a hole in the gas tank itself.   With gas prices the way they are, what else would you expect?  I did a Google search on "gas theft," and got 662,000 hits.  A couple more thoughts about this on the flip

Giving Liberally: Black and Missing

Sun Feb 24, 2008 at 09:40:55 PM PDT

This is an Action Diary. Just like with Pretty Bird Woman House, I'm hoping that when you are done reading you will be moved to take action to help others. While you certainly can give financially, that's probably not what would help the most. A list of action items can be found at the end of the diary and if you have any suggestions we have overlooked, please include that suggestion in the comments.

You've heard the story; promising young teenager in a on trip in a foreign country goes missing. Parents are frantic to find out something, anything. Despite initially instituting a search, foreign officials eventually wind up treating the case in a dismissive manner. Members of congress take up the cause. Finally, the worst is confirmed.

Natalee Holloway, right?

Wrong. This young woman you have never heard of is Phylicia Moore.

Do Atheists Commit More Crime?

Fri Jan 11, 2008 at 06:03:58 PM PDT

I am often insulted by narrow minded believers who argue that non-believers commit crime at a higher rate than their percent of the population.

What insults me most about this line of abuse is the claim that I am incapable of independently determining what is ethical because I was raised in a Christian country. Somehow the Christian ethics were imparted to me through my up-bringing, and those college years searching for my true beliefs as a philosophy major were a waste of time. Silly me, God was imparting His True Ethics to me all along.

Urgent prayer request

Sat Jul 14, 2007 at 07:32:15 PM PDT

I have an urgent prayer request.

About 2:30 a.m. I was awake on the library sofa with my leg propped up because I pulled a hamstring earlier in the evening while running.

Lucy , a dog we've had for a week, was beside me on the floor. A neighbor's dog was barking and she got up and headed toward's my daughter's room, which is in the direction the dog was barking, and Lucy barked a fierce bark.

It's only the second time I've heard her bark and then she came back and lay down next to me.

In the morning, however, my wife was helping to straighten up my daughter's room when she noticed the screen was up.

Crime & The City

Following is a sample column I put together for some dumb project. Mrs Pastor thought I could do better, and she's right. But here it is, since I don't mind pawning off the second-rate merchandise on you guys. And Atrios thinks he's got the suckiest blog ever.

My wife and I recently moved to the town of Wayne in far northwestern Washington County. We like it here, even if we joke that it's five miles to anywhere.

It's quiet, spacious country here. We came for the same reason many of our neighbors did: we were tired of traffic, filthy air, and noise.
