Happy 4th of July! Although I have lovely memories of July 4ths earlier in my life in many other parts of the country, there is nothing like July 4th in New England. Especially in small town New England--there are tons of parades with tractors and fire trucks (Zanzibar and I got to ride in one for a couple of years before my ex moved to a new town), Boy Scouts, Candidates for public office, old cars, Jazzerizers, mountain climbers over the age of 60--you name it! Oh! Shriners on little scooters with their Fezzes, Antique bikes and unicycles and Uncle Sam on stilts. There are chicken barbecues, lobster bakes, fried dough, Italian sausage sandwiches, pancake breakfasts and of course fireworks. Not every town has them, some towns have them at other times, maybe parades at Christmas and Memorial Day--but there are lots of them! Around 800,000 people were expected to visit New Hampshire this weekend. I live in a vacation area, so we get lots of them here.....can you see me gritting my teeth? Most touristas are very nice--others, not so much. We actually have traffic this weekend! I have other things to do, so won't be partaking this year...maybe next year.

Still grey and gloomy here. I am starting to mold....yick. Everything feels damp. I did have an excellent day yesterday with Common Sense Mainer and Bill in Portland Maine! We met in Freeport, world headquarters of L.L.Bean. We had a yummy lunch and then shopped--I went to a little British Import shoppe where I found my all time favorite cookies, Bourbon Cremes. They are a less sweet version of oreos. I also got some Digestives and Cadbury Milk Chocolate and Fruit bars--the American ones are not nearly as good as the ones from Great Briton! I think it's the milk or something. I also found a couple of cute "Life is Good" T-Shirts. We went into Beans and then headed back to Portland. I got to see Molly and Vegas! Molly and I had a great time playing and getting kisses. I had a top on which has ribbons sewn down from the shoulder to about the midriff, then they hang from there. When we got to CSM and BiPM's, Molly didn't see me at first coming up the stairs as she was intent on getting outside--she spotted me and stopped on a dime, and then lifted her head--her nose got all tangled in the ribbons from my blouse--she looked sooooo cute with all these ribbons on her face! She then gave me a kiss! Vegas is looking great! We talked and laughed for a while and then I had to get going to get back to my girls. It was so good to spend time with good friends. CSM is now a non-smoker, but it is still hard. Please say a prayer for his resolve.
I need to get to Mom's to do a couple of things for her and maybe tomorrow get paint so I can get started at my house. I picked out colors for the rooms--and I need tile mastic for tiling the backsplash at Mom's. I will post photos when I get done!

Another Friday--whew! We made it. The skies are threatening and I hear some rumbling--so come on in and join me for some munchies and libations! What's your pleasure? I think a Captain and Coke with a couple of limes sounds excellent! Or a Gin and Tonic.....I have some wonderful spinach dip with pretzel crisps on the sideboard, with all kinds of goodies.
So, any plans this weekend? I am meeting Common Sense Mainer and Bill in Portland Maine tomorrow for some shopping. CSM needs some clothes for Net Roots--I am fashion consultant! I need to get moving on my home redecorating and I still have a few things to do at Mom's. I need to take a run to Lowe's for paint and supplies.
So, pull up a comfy chair and relax for a while--it is nice and cool in here and there's some good jazz on the stereo and the poodles are more than willing to share some goodies with you. Tell us about your day and your weekend!

I have become more aware of the need to save energy--trying to drive less, I bought cloth bags for my groceries--I have changed all the light bulbs, I reuse things--I got a low flow toilet, trying not to use the air conditioner.

I know, I know, it's Happy Hour, not Yappy Hour~but I couldn't resist! I know we have a lot of lovers of those with fuzzy faces and wet noses--so take a moment and go to Big Orange to read dear noweasel's diary Please help our friends the animals from last night. The floods have not only hurt people, but also untold numbers of animals. Shelters are overflowing and really could use some help--noweasels has links to many animal rescue groups--all are good groups to give to, so if you have even a dollar or two, I know they could use it. You can also check their wish lists--you might have something sitting around that they need.
I worked today--I am spending more than I am making though! I found an adorable hat with beads and a macrame band around the crown. Oh I love hats. I just hate what they do to my hair!
Mom and I went plant buying yesterday--I can hardly wait to get busy planting! What are you up to? What are you eating and drinking? I picked up some queche and salad, watermelon and a boule--light and yummy! As I type the motorcycles are droaning outside--gah. I did meet some nice ones at work though--it's just that 300,000 of them are really awful. They remind me of locusts. but smelly.
