Just Asking, #3

Sun Dec 09, 2007 at 12:23:32 PM PDT

It's been some time since the last "Just Asking..." diary. I thought today I'd revisit the idea. What am I asking? Check below.

For Mom

As many of you know from the Prayer Closet, my Mom has been ill for awhile. This morning, about 1:30am Arizona time, she went to her rest.

Just Asking... Again!

Thu Jul 05, 2007 at 04:11:46 PM PDT

Thanks to all of you for the amazing responses to my first Just Asking diary! I learned a lot about my neighbors here on the Street, and many people were intrigued with the concept of the diary.

So here I go again, tripping the light fantastic through the backwards "Ask A..."

Just Asking... (w/update)

Wed Jun 27, 2007 at 02:29:37 PM PDT

There are some things I've always wondered about the people I meet here. So I put together a few questions. If you feel like answering that would be terrific. Think of it as a backwards "Ask A..." diary.

Follow the reversed prints below...

thank you, and you, and mostly YOU...

I'm grateful for SP, and for all of you.

Why? (See below...)

Nouns, Verbs, Changes

Sun Mar 25, 2007 at 10:08:13 AM PDT

Some of us here may have had times in our lives when Faith was a noun, something that we recognized, something we held, but didn't do much with. I was like this for a long time, have a noun of a faith, trying on different nouns because I liked the sound in my mouth.

Then I found a Faith that was more active, more like a verb. I discovered a Faith that was about doing more than not. Orthoprax a friend called it, rather than orthodox.

Right now, though, I feel like it's the wrong verb.

Name-Calling: Deity, Prophet and the Power of Names

Fri Feb 23, 2007 at 09:12:10 AM PDT

A couple of weeks ago, PD wrote this brief diary about the egregious Virgil Goode and one of his more pernicious pronouncements.

This ode to (maybe) willful ignorance inspired me to the thoughts below:

Leaving aside the unintentional humor of a title like " Army Boots Wiccan Chaplain " please read this article currently at Huffington Post.

Noonday Prayer from the Daily Office - fill-in edition

O Oriens

O Oriens, splendor lucis aeternae, et sol justitiae: veni, illumina sedentes in tenebris, et umbra mortis.

O Dayspring, Brightness of the everlasting light, Son of justice, come to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death!

from O Come, O Come Emmanuel
Oh come, Thou Dayspring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night
And death's dark shadow put to flight!
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, Israel!

Seasonal Music (with Confession) and Request

Wed Nov 29, 2006 at 06:26:48 AM PDT

Let's just get the confession part over with. I sorta hijacked irishwitch's diary though I didn't intend to. It all began with a discussion of the music of the season. After some interesting posts by self-described "music pedants", I decided to "unhijack" and post a seasonal music diary, and forum for the musicians among us.

"Conversations With God"

First the book, now the movie.

No, really.

This opened recently in my town. I've not read the book (should I?) so naturally I'm curious. How would this translate into a film?

Turn the page, please...

Other people can be completely, totally, utterly (finish thesaurus entry here) confusing.

Like for instance, what would you think if...
