I am not an activist, don't make candidate calls, stuff envelopes or knock on doors. Hell, the very first political donation I ever made was in 2006, to Larry Kissell's campaign against the odious Robin Hayes, and that was only $25.
But now I am so effing pissed off I could chew pig-iron and spit nails. The U.S. House and the current, soon to be primaried out Democratic cowards who have betrayed We The People and our Constitution will NOT protect us from warrantless wiretapping, so we must protect ourselves.
Limpy (official designation "Wolf 253M"), a popular Yellowstone wolf that has been observed and photographed for years, was shot along with his pack mates, apparently the same day the Bush Misadministration's Environmental Prostitution Agency (EPA) took wolves off the endangered list. How brave these bastards must feel - they shot a crippled legend. In an elk range in a national park, not on anyone's herd lands.
After careful consideration, I've decided it's time to depart. In addition, the intertubes no longer feel safe, and right now, personal safety has become a primary concern of mine.
Rain's place, Saturday, January 19 at 6:00 PM, heavy munchies, maybe some chili, definitely a cake. Leave RSVP/Regrets in comments and we'll get directions to folk what needs 'em! I am soooo looking forward to meeting you all!
So, what would you call a group of advanced degree holders (Masters or Doctorate)? And a group of just Masters? Just Doctorates?
Yes, I know there are some adjectives ("terminal degree" for a PhD) but I'm looking for amusing, fitting collective nouns, like a murder of crows or a clouder of kittens.
Ukranian-born lead singer Eugene Hütz and his family fled their hometown near Kiev upon hearing of the Chernobyl meltdown, and endured a seven-year trek through Eastern Europe refugee camps before coming to the United States through a resettlement program. He is one-quarter Roma (Gypsy).
When the book unChristian: What a New Generation Really Thinks about Christianity... and Why It Matters by David Kinnaman and Gabe Lyons came out in October, I decided to read it yet was not going to buy it, so went through the proper channels to get the County Library to purchase a copy. Since I hadn't heard from them, I assumed they decided against it, but when I got some other books on Tuesday, the librarian noted that it had come in and was on hold for me, so took it home.

The supermarket I go has fresh, rotisserie-cooked whole chickens guaranteed to be available for three hours, twice daily, in the hot bin at the deli counter. They're nicely done birds, tender, juicy and the store does variations : plain, barbecue, garlic'n'herb, etc, along with roast turkey breast and fresh fried chicken but like most prepared foods, they're a bit pricey - $7 for an average-sized whole chicken.
First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season."
